A Bit About Us

The grape guru is a project started by Matt Atkinson (WSET 3) in 2019.  He wanted to create a wine club for people who enjoyed drinking wine and also wanted to learn about the wine they are drinking.  Not to over obsess, but just to gain a smattering of knowledge.  Explore where the grapes are grown, how the wine is made and how this impacts on the taste and flavours.

 

It's driven by looking round corners to find exceptional quality and value in wines.  To find the golden nuggets in a very congested market, so that we can bring them to you direct from the vineyard and can pass the savings on to you.

With a background in Biochemistry from Sheffield University and running a family delicatessen just outside York, the grape guru is obsessed about the details of the wine (and what goes with it!).  Continuously learning about the flavours, the food pairing and how to find great quality and sustainability in winemaking.  By understanding the grapes, the terroir, the climate and the production techniques we take away the jargon so that you can 'just drink great wines'.

Each month, we offer a personally selected case of 6 or 12 wines for you to enjoy.  We deliver within York and can arrange other delivery options for you should you wish.
