York Wine Club - Tasting Notes - July 2024

Hi Team,

What a month we have had. A cool and wet start and then a glorious last two weeks. This month I wanted to explore some grape varieties that you haven't heard of before....unless you're a dedicated wino!

And where better to start than Italy, with hundreds of grape varieties and differing styles, I focused here. I then had been saving the Henners Rose for a special month...it's an English Pinot Meunier which is classy and stylish, so appreciate it with friends in the sunshine.

As always, there is a dinner party flow to the case.

But this month, I've added this Moscato....which can be drunk as an Aperitif or as a dessert finisher. I think my preference is to go early with it as it's light and vibrant and I can guarantee your mates will say 'oooooooooooooooooooooo, what's this????' PLus it has a little fizz.

As it's sweeter (technically medium) then if you follow it with the Gargenega or Arneis, then they will feel like they have less body.

So I propose;

Drink the Moscato on arrival. Keep it super chilled. Then pause and move to the Henners. Have the Arneis & Gargenega available on the table for lunch.

The Negroamaro and the Dolcetto on the table too....the Negroamaro is lighter and will work well with the lighter dishes and the Dolcetto will pack the punch the big red lovers like.

I hope you enjoy & as always, drink safely.

Cheers and Big Love

Matt
