We've selected three exciting wines for the summer, from the Vinho Verde region of Portugal. But what's the inside line on them and why do you need them in your lives :-) They're bright, refreshing, fruity and brilliant for dinner parties or garden parties. They're all from near a town called Penafiel and

it's close to the eastern border of Portugal's vinho verde wine region. In the Entre-Douro-e-Minho sub-region of Sousa, their vineyards are influenced by winds from the Atlantic Ocean - creating the perfect climate to ripen varieties such as Avesso, Loureiro and Alvarinho.
The Wines
#1 Vila Nova - Vinho Verde 2021
The 2019 vintage won Gold at the Sommelier Wine Awards in 2020, really great quality wine with floral, citrus and tropical apromas. Super refreshing with a classic spritz. Blend of Loureiro 50%, Avesso 5%, Arinto 35% from the DOC Vinho Verde appelation. The perfect summer aperitif or with a salad or grilled fish!
#2 - Vila Nova - Vinho Verde Rose 2020
This is a pretty, soft and fruity Vinho Verde rosé made from the local Espadeiro grape. Fresh red berries on the nose with a soft and appealing finish. 100% Espadiero grapes from DOC Vinho Verde.
#3 Vila Nova - Alvarinho 2020
Just Alvarinho, made in Vinho Regional Minho appellation, equivalent to IGP in France. This wine is perfect for chicken salad, fish or sushi..this has real pedigree, the 2021 vintage winning silver at the Decanter World Wine awards in 2022, and the 2019 vintage winning bronze in the 2020 sommelier awards. Citrus with lively palate, stone fruits and minerality. Nicely balanced.
Three lovely wines for the summer! Get them quick.
Cheers
Matt
